Jakarta – Anindya Novyan Bakrie, the president and CEO of the Bakrie Group, was officially inaugurated as the new chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) on Thursday.
Kadin, Indonesia’s most influential business lobbying group, witnessed a smooth leadership transition after a brief internal dispute that ultimately concluded with Anindya’s unopposed election.
Anindya takes over the leadership role from Arsjad Rasjid, whose term was initially set to end in 2024.
While Arsjad resisted the leadership change in September 2024, he ultimately stepped down amid widespread support for Anindya.
The decision was formally endorsed during Kadin’s national congress, attended by 35 provincial heads of Kadin chapters, who approved Anindya’s appointment by acclamation. His term will run until 2029.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Jakarta, was marked by the symbolic handover of Kadin’s flag from Arsjad to Anindya, with President Prabowo Subianto sitting between the two leaders as a sign of unity.
In his address, Arsjad congratulated Anindya and expressed gratitude to Kadin members for their support throughout his tenure, emphasizing the importance of solidarity among Indonesia’s business community.
“I’m moved by your solidarity and dedication to making Kadin a solid organization,” Arsjad said. “For the stability and continuity of businesses, we entrepreneurs must demonstrate that we remain united and steadfast.”
As part of Kadin’s leadership restructuring, Arsjad has been appointed the head of Kadin’s advisory council, a role that will allow him to continue providing guidance and continuity to the organization.
The leadership transition follows a period of tension, during which Arsjad faced criticism for allegedly politicizing Kadin due to his involvement as the campaign chief for presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo in the recent election.
Despite these challenges, the change in leadership was ultimately characterized by a spirit of unity and collaboration, ensuring that Kadin remains a vital force in Indonesia’s business sector.
The event underscored Kadin’s resilience and commitment to fostering a strong and united business environment in the country.
